Batticaloa St.Mary’s Church has been raised to the rank of the Cathedral of the Batticaloa diocese. This follows the declaration of Battticaloa as a new diocese by the Vatican. Rt.Rev. Dr.Joseph has been appointed as the first Bishop of Batticaloa.
