Pope Benedict XVI celebrated his 85th birth day in Vatican on Monday. UK High Commissioner in Hill Country

The British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, John Rankin, began a two-day official visit to Central Province on Monday.

In Kandy he met the Governor of Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and the DIG of Central Province Ambanwela and called on the senior members of the Chamber of Commerce and visited the Garrison Cemetery.

The High Commissioner commented “It is important that we understand all parts of Sri Lanka. This is my second official visit to Kandy which is also a popular destination for British tourists.  It is also an area of increasing opportunities for British companies and one where we have strong historical links - I paid my respects today at the British Garrison cemetery where many British nationals are laid to rest.”
