Anointing temple elephant, New Year tradition

In accordance with the new year tradition, the temple elephant at Kotte Raja Maha Vihare was anointed with oil at the auspicious hour. A monk attached to the temple performed the ritual, known as ‘ Hisa Thel Gama’ .

President at oil anointing ceremony

The traditional oil anointing ceremony was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapakse at the auspicious hour of 7.08 at the Carlton house on April 15.

Chancellor of Ruhnu University, Ven Pallatara Sumanageeth Thera anointed the oil on the head of President Rajapakse, according to traditions.
