President Mahinda Rajapakse has directed the authorities to establish new police stations and check points to deal with the rise in crimes in several parts of the island and put an end to the disturbing trend.


President Rajapakse participated in the Parliamentary Consultative Committee meetings held yesterday in his capacity as Minister of Finance and Defence.


President Rajapakse gave the directive while addressing the issue of increasing rate of crimes in the country. He directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a report about his recommendations for the number of police stations to be established as well as the location for such police stations. The locations will determined on the basis of the areas where the rate of crimes is high and population density, reports say. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Ministers, Parliamentarians, Tri force Commanders etc were present.
