"Let Lanka be Sports hub of Asia":President


President Mahinda Rajapakse observed that it is the determined policy of the government to make Sri Lanka the sports hub of Asia by 2016.  With that end in view the government was implementing programmes to develop sports in rural areas and among rural youths.


President Mahinda Rajaapkse declared open the Jayatileke Sports Complex at Nawaalpitiya yesterday and addressed the event. Sports Minster Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekaanyake were also present. Addressing the ceremony, he stated that 314 play grounds in regional level, 25 sports grounds in district level and 9 sports complexes in provincial level have been established for the promotion of sports in rural areas. The rural youths must be able to win prizes in all levels. They must win places in all island and international competitions.
