Japan held a solemn ceremony to mark the bombing of Hiroshima. The relatives of those, who were killed in the bombing, placed wreaths at the Hiroshima Peace Park. A bell ringing for one minute amidst observation of silence marked the event.
The event was held at the location at which the US bomber Enola Gay dropped the bomb which killed 140, 000 people. Mayor Kazumi Matsui delivered a talk. A grandson of US President Harry Truman, who ordered the bombing of Hiroshima also attended.
