First State Fish canning factory

The first fish canning factory was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday.

It is located in Galle Fisheries Harbour. After inspecting the products of the factory, President observed that it is a disgrace that the country imports fish for consumption, while there is a resourceful ocean around the island.

The ocean must be transformed into lucrative resource. The factory is a joint venture by Fisheries Corporation and Happy Cook Lanka Food (pvt) Ltd. Minister of Fisheries Dr.Rajitha Senaratne, Parliamentarians Nishantha Muthetigama, Manesha Nanaaykara, Chairman Fisheries Corporation Mahila Senaratne, Chairman of the Lanka Food L.D.Pathiranage were also present.
