Monks’ Dambulla demonstration
Around thousand people including a number of Buddhist monks staged a demonstration In Dambulla protesting against a Mosque situated in the area declared as a Buddhist sacred zone. Reports say that demonstrators carried Buddhist flags and demanded the demolition of the Mosque.
The Muslims in the area have maintained that the Masjidul Khaira had been there for fifty years since 1960. Police being present in large number ensured maintenance of law and order.
