Inspector General of Police, N.K.Ilnangakoon has ordered a probe into the incident in Chilaw in which a protestor fisherman had lost his life.

 

The deceased is Anthony Fernando, 32 year old married man with two children. He took part in a demonstration held in Chilaw to protest against the fuel price hike. The police had fired to disperse the crowd. A police curfew was imposed. Chilaw Bishop Valence Mendis came to the scene and appealed for calm, according to reports from Chilaw.
