Chandrika’s interview in India

Former President Chandrika Kumaratunge Bandaranaike has observed that the defeat of the LTTE is a very big window of opportunity for resolving the national issue. There was no question of the LTTE resurrecting.

While making these observations during an interview with an Indian media, she stated that as a result of the mode of India’s voting on the UN Geneva resolution, there will be no impact on the relations between Sri Lanka and India. India has always been very supportive not only to this government of Sri Lanka but with many of its governments. There must have been a genuine reason for India’s change of mind. Furthermore, India has domestic compulsions like any other country.

She added that the Lankan government must walk an extra mile tom resolve the minority Tamil issue. She herself walked hundreds of miles towards that direction. India pushes for a solution. It wants Sri Lanka to go beyond the landmark 13th amendment for devolution of powers.
