National Counter Terrorism Centre; Tamil Nadu CM protests

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha has protested against Delhi’s proposal to the setting up of National Counter Terrorism Centre. According to reports, the Centre, which is to become operative from March 1, is deemed to be a separate body functioning under the Home Ministry.

In her letter to Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, Jayalaitha states that public order and police are in the State list according to the Constitution. The proposal for the Centre is unconstitutional. Therefore, the proposal must be withdrawn forthwith in deference to the views of the Chief Ministers of other Sates.

Earlier, the Chief Minister Tri[ura, Manik Sarkar has opposed the move as it would jeopardize the federal structure of the Indian Constitution.
