‘Entire Lanka to all ethnic communities’: President in Independence Day address


President Mahinda Rajapakse has stressed that the entire country belongs to all ethnic communities. There can be no claim of regional belonging by any single group.


President Rajapakse was addressing the 64th Independence Day held in Anurathapura on February4. He was accorded a guard of honour by the security forces. He was flanked by the heads of the three forces.


President Rajapakse stated that any solution to the national issue will be a home grown solution derived from the country’s experience. It cannot be influenced by any foreign elements. The solution will have to be through the Parliamentary Select Committee. The government is committed to parliamentary democracy, good governance and independence of the judiciary.


‘ ‘ Let an angry man be conquered by love, an evil man by goodness. Let a miser be won over by liberality, a liar by truthfulness.’  he conclude.
