Doctors who are members of the Government Medical Officers’ Association staged a strike action demanding an increase in the Disturbance, Availability and Transport allowance paid to them.
Doctors kept away from work in several hospitals including the Kandy National Hospital. All medical clinics except the Emergency service came to a standstill. GMOA has 60 branches with a membership of 16,000 doctors. They demanded the DAT allowance to be increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 29,000.
But, the strike was called off by the GMOA following talks held between GMOA and Health Ministry and Finance Ministry.
