Jinnah scholarships to 165 Lankan students

Pakistan Government through its High Commission in Sri Lanka has awarded SL Rs 4 Million worth of educational scholarships to 165 bright Sri Lankan students of O/L and A/L under Jinnah Scholarship Programme 2012 at an Award ceremony held under the patronage of High Commission of Pakistan, at Bishop College Auditorium. Minister of Social Services Felix Perera has observed that since 70% of the Jaffna district was affected by the conflict, the people of the area will be given priority in providing social assistance.


Minister Felix Perera was in Jaffna on Friday providing social assistance at official functions. At a function held in Weerasigham Hall, Minister Felix Perera handed over wheel chairs to 50 disabled persons and 50 hand crutches to another group of 50 disabled persons. Besides, 200 elderly persons beyond the age of 70 were handed over with pass books with deposits of Rs1000 each. This amount will be paid each month to them. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Social Services. Minister Felix also laid foundation stones to a Housing Project of 59 house units.  

 

Secretary to the Ministry of Social Services P.M.S.Ratnayaka,  Jaffna Government Agent Suntharam Arumainayagam and Jaffna SF Commander Maj.Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe were also present.
